Abiotic Factor Tainted Water: Collect, Purify or Grow Mushrooms

Find tainted water in Abiotic Factor, distinguish it from clean drinking water, and choose between purification and mushroom-farm use.

Early collection points

Collect tainted water from the Office fountain or gym pool. Bring a suitable liquid container and check the displayed liquid type. Do not assume a container already holds the liquid you intended.

Choose the use before processing it

  • Drinking: use the boiling guide to make clean water.
  • Ordinary crops: use clean water.
  • Mushrooms: keep a separate tainted supply for the Mushroom Farm.

The last distinction matters: purifying every container can leave you without the water needed by a mushroom setup.

Can you drink it directly?

Normally, drinking tainted water causes sickness rather than providing a dependable drinking supply. The Lead Belly trait allows direct consumption without purification. Check your character’s traits; do not generalize that exception to every player in a group.

How do you bring tainted water back to a farm?

  1. Choose a liquid container and inspect what it already holds.
  2. Visit a known source, such as the gym pool in the Office Sector.
  3. Collect the liquid and verify that its label says Tainted Water.
  4. Bring the supply to your base and place the container beside the farm.
  5. Inspect the farm’s warning state before changing lighting or moving other equipment.

If the container is full but the farm still reports a water problem, use the farm placement checks to check its distance and contents.

Should you boil it, filter it or leave it tainted?

These ratios describe the game, not real-world water treatment. If you need one litre of clean water by the boiling method, budget four litres of tainted input; do not confuse the input volume with the clean output.

Use how to boil water for the cooking setup, or the Carbuncle Mushroom source comparison if maintaining a farm is not useful for your immediate goal.

A practical storage habit

Group containers by intended use and recheck their contents after a transfer. Keep one drinking reserve apart from your processing supply.

If you have water but no clean output, diagnose the pot and stove using the cooking page. If the water is beside a farm and nothing grows, use the farm’s placement checks instead.
