Abiotic Factor Mushroom Farm: Setup & Not Growing Fixes

Build a Mushroom Farm, check its tainted-water supply and light conditions, and troubleshoot missing harvests with a recipe and material checklist.

Why is your Mushroom Farm not growing?

Check water type, water placement and lighting separately. The structure needs nearby tainted water and a location away from lights. A warning disappearing means you have changed what the game is detecting; it does not, by itself, demonstrate a completed growth cycle.

Start with the symptom you can actually observe. The labels below summarize symptoms rather than reproduce exact interface messages.

How do you set up a Mushroom Farm?

Check tainted water, place a container beside the farm, turn off nearby lights, then observe warnings and harvest. Container-fed production uses 750 ml for four mushrooms.
Farm setup schematic. Tap to enlarge. Check the water type, nearby container and lighting one at a time.
  1. Choose a controllable test location. A room with a light switch lets you change lighting without repeatedly moving the farm.
  2. Prepare tainted water. Check the liquid’s name rather than guessing from its color. If you need a collection point, see where to collect and transport tainted water.
  3. Place the water container next to the farm. Inspect the warning again after placement. Keep the container directly beside the farm while troubleshooting, rather than relying on one across the room.
  4. Switch off nearby lights. Keep the water container in place while checking lighting so you know which change affected the result.
  5. Record a baseline. Note the water level, in-game day, warning state and whether mushrooms are already present. Revisit without changing the setup immediately.

Supply the farm with environmental tainted water or a nearby deployable liquid container. A container-fed farm consumes 750 ml of tainted water for four Carbuncle Mushrooms. This is a consumption ratio, not a growth timer.

How much water should you reserve?

By that consumption figure, 3,000 ml supports four growths yielding 16 mushrooms. A full 10,000 ml container supports 13 complete growths with 250 ml left, provided no other process drains it. Use the water level to plan refills; check the farm itself for harvest readiness. Refill before the remaining water falls below the next 750 ml requirement.

What if a pond works poorly but a barrel works?

If a farm beside natural water has no warning but still produces nothing, try a filled tainted-water barrel directly beside it. Keep the lighting and farm position unchanged so you can see whether the water supply was the problem.

For a useful comparison, keep one farm in a dark location and test a filled container beside it. Write down the starting level, leave the arrangement unchanged, and check again later. If the container setup produces, you have found a workable configuration for that save; you have not established a universal rule about every pond.

Avoid dismantling a functioning base or destroying a pet to perform this check. If you need mushrooms immediately, compare the other Carbuncle Mushroom sources while the test runs.

What is the Mushroom Farm recipe?

This recipe produces one Mushroom Farm at a Crafting Bench. Collect the named items below; a normal Peccary Skull is not the same material as a Mushroom Peccary Skull.

MaterialAmountWhere to start
Mushroom Peccary Skull1Harvest the remains of a Mushroom Peccary; distinguish this from collecting a living pet’s mushrooms
Human Arm (Military)1Harvest Order or Gatekeeper enemy remains
Soil Bag2Look in Bio Lab D, or craft each bag from one Bag of Feces and two Bio Scrap at a Crafting Bench
Hexwood4Check Canaan access, Hexed Trees and the return route before planning a trip

Carbuncle Mushrooms are not an ingredient in this recipe. Do not spend time gathering them solely because the finished structure grows mushrooms.

If you already have the materials but cannot craft the farm, distinguish a missing recipe from an unfinished research step. Consult the Crafting Bench checks for station problems; moving a water container will not unlock crafting.

Do you plant mushrooms or seeds in it?

This is a separate crafted deployable, not an ordinary garden plot. Its operation depends on its surroundings, not on planting a seed in a crop plot. Check placement before assuming you need to insert a Carbuncle Mushroom.

Likewise, a Mushroom Peccary pet is a different production system. Its harvest interaction and growth cycle must not be used as the farm’s timer.

How long should you wait, and when should you report a problem?

Use the farm’s warning state, water consumption and actual harvest to track production. Do not apply the pet’s five-day cycle to this structure.

If a stable setup still fails, record your game version, world settings, location, light state, liquid type, starting and ending container levels, elapsed in-game days and warning text. Those details separate a supply problem from a possible simulation or version-specific issue. A screenshot of both the farm and its surroundings is more useful than a cropped item icon.
